I had a detached retina caused by a piece of metal hit my left eye. Can I have a posting again …?
Arrived before 2 years … a piece of metal punctured my left eye i din have any pain or loss of vision. Only after a month when I visited a hospital in the eyes … I said I'm having a foreign body and that my retina is separated … if surgery was performed and the foreign body was removed and the retina is attached … but after that I was only 30% WHT and vision whenever I see the weather was cloudy … I underwent cataract surgery and even now, when the vision is very poor … about 50% do not know wht to do .. Right now I am 25yrs of age .. I really do not know what to do .. WHT? When I asked the doctors about it they told me the piece of metal contaminated the eye and it is only because I'm having a bad vision .. Please, friends … I suggest a) Is there a workaround for that in India or abroad … b) To bring someone in that situation. C) I do .. White Should I leave my career in the merchant navy and go with some else .. FRIENDS PLEASE I suggest

Why do people have such a persistent vision of a literal (i.e. physical) hell, when it refers to our souls?
Please excuse any ignorance on my part, but I am of the understanding that it is our souls that go to Hell (or Heaven), and that our physical bodies are left behind to decay and eventually cease to exist. In that case, how can we apply such a physical concept and sensation to something that is anything but physical?
Couldn’t the burning refer to the same kind of piercing (emotional/spiritual) misery that some people already experience here on earth? Or am I mistaken there?

Thank you all for your answers! I’m afraid I didn’t quite get as much insight as I’d hoped, or really get to understanding the physical and spiritual aspects of it, but all the answers were interesting and quite helpful!

OK, according to scripture, as said above, we will be reunited with our bodies at some point. However, you are right in emphasizing the emotional/spiritual/psychological suffering of hell. It all comes down to Divine Justice really, in that someone who does not want to be in God’s presence or in his Church will not want to see him in the afterlife. However, I guess in Hell there is some sort of knowledge that all fulfillment would have been found in the God above. This causes the ensuing pain, etc. Now, the fire and brimstone stuff is partially because of the literary style of the Jews. The Jews had a very hard time with abstracts as can be seen in Genesis 1, where they use something (waters, wasteland, etc.) to explain nothing (there was nothing before God made it, etc.). Therefore, some state better described by philosophy, and advanced theology would have left most of the Jewish writers and people scratching their heads, so they used concrete terms (lake of fire, etc.) to describe a state of spiritual, etc. suffering. The same carries over to our modern times were newspapers bore the headlines, “Pope Says He Doesn’t Believe in Hell” when Pope John Paul II (of beloved memory) said that Hell is more of a spiritual, emotional state of suffering than anything else. Many of us are still bound to the concrete level of thinking and the abstract is difficult for many, so the image of fire and brimstone does nicely to describe a not so physical state. It’s what is called, after all, a metaphor.
