Please please please reply …. BELLY BAR PIERCING!?
i Last year, obtained my belly button pierced with a titanium rod. My body rejected and now I'm really new. reject it again? Does it hurt more? What metal would be better? Please help x
It may reject, maybe not. Probably because it does more harm by scar tissue. The Titanium is really the best. Exactly the same thing happened to me myself and I'm dying to repierced.
Belly ring materials, what’s good, what’s not.?
I’ve had my navel done, it’ll be 3 years in march. I originally had a titanium straight bar in when I first got it done, and switched a stainless steel curved bar after a few months, and I’ve had that in up until now. It hasn’t fully healed and isn’t infected or anything, it seems to go though periods of irritation and normalcy. I switched it out to an acrylic retainer and it feels much better, but I know it can’t stay in forever.
A) How long can I keep the retainers in?
B) I hear bioclast would be a good long term jewelry since I like synthetics. Anyone have long term experience with it?
C) I’ll probably go back to titanium unless there’s another synthetic that would be good for long term wear.
Oh I know, straight bar was a stupid idea but I figured it would be easier to change and move around, but curved it totally the way to go.
I’m not a fan of any of the synthetics for long term wear. Acrylic is really for short term (a few hours). Bio-plast is very questionable, as there haven’t been any decent studies done (to my knowledge) to prove it’s bio-compatibility. PTFE is similar.
Implant grade stainless steel or titanium are usually your best bets, but you could also try Pyrex or quartz if you want something different. Both are fine to wear in both healed and not-so-healed piercings.
If you’ve had it for that long and it’s still causing you trouble, you may be reacting to the small amount of nickel that is in the stainless steel (especially if your jewelry isn’t top of the line)
AHH! I just noticed that you said you had a straight barbell at first. Do not get another one of these. Curved barbells are the best thing to wear in a navel piercing. A straight barbell will almost ensure the piercing rejects.
