Changing My Nose Stud Gauge?
I got my nose pierced 2 weeks ago today. I was piercing with a 18g needle, and have 18g stud in there now, but I would like to put in a 20g stud that I got. I wouldnt mind having my nose go to a 20g because you can find more jewelry for it…but if I decided to put the 20 in, will I still be able to use 18s? A girl at a body jewelry shop told me she switches between 18 and 20 all the time. Is it true that even if my piercing shrinks to the 20g a little that I can still use 18g jewelry?
Hi,
You can switch down to a 20g but might have a harder time moving back to an 18. If you wait longer for the hole to fully heal, you will have a better chance of being able to move between the two. As of right now though, since your nose is most likely still healing, the skin/cartilage will most likely grow around the 20g hole.
If you’d like to be able to switch between the two sizes, I’d give your nose a good month or two to heal fully before switching down a size.
