Why is there no section for body modification?
Piercings, tattoos, stretching, etc.? Their beauty and style really does not seem to match. And other than beauty and style is no better place to put these questions?
It's weird because I always thought there was a category for the tattoos on this site. In fact, I'm sure. ): I think you're wrong, there should be a category for body modifications and should certainly be under Beauty & Style offers. Do you think piercings are a form of self harm?
Ive got quite a few and my ears stretched and i get asked alot of questions and i was recently talking to someone and they said that they thought getting pierced and tattooed is a form of self harm and it means that you hate your body and want to change it…wtf. Ive never heard this before and just wanted to know if anyine has the same view?
Selfharm is not the same at all.
I see piercing as decoration. But know noone who selfharms because they think it ‘looks pretty’ If they did.. that would be rather weird, and they’d probably fall into the ‘annoying, attenion-seeking camp’.
I don’t NEED random bits of metal in myself to feel complete. But I want them there, they’re pretty for a start. Scars are not nearly the same (bar scarification, which has some artistic merit)
People go through all sorts of pain and uncomfort to change their image. Like dentists, waxing etc etc. Most of it would never, ever be classed as self-harm.
I don’t see plastic surgery classed as self-harm, and to me thats much closer than piercings could be.
And as long as you go to professional. No harm is really caused with piercing anyway.
Yes, some people who get pierced have a history of self-harm. But alot of people who dye their hair, drive, eat etc etc also have a history. It doesn’t make them connected.
And even the masochistic ones, to me anyway, are not self-harmers. They are in the literal sense, but ’self-harm’ is classed more as a mental problem. Alot of masochists would be very offended if you started telling them they were mentally ill >.<
Play piercing perhaps is more interesting. All the pain, none of the end-product. And I'd still never class it as self-harm.
This arguement comes up from time to time. But in general, everyone has mods for different reasons. Its only self-harm if you think it is. Screw everyone else
