However the love between the two had been so strong that she had also stayed single and waited for his return. He then presented her with a breathtaking ring that he had made while he was away, thus, the birth of the first Claddagh ring.

The Claddagh Ring: Design and Meaning

The Claddagh ring typifies numerous affairs with its unusual intent. The ring is framed with a crown situated above the heart with two hands buckling the heart. The hands symbolise the initial stage of a kinship, which is friendship, where all pairs ordinarily set out. The second stage is that of the engagement after some time of getting to recognise each other. And then the third and final phase: marriage. The crown is a narrative of royalty, and the heart intends love. The whole thought of a Claddagh ring is that passion and friendship reign above everything else. The thinking, however, changes in accordance to how the bearer wears the ring. If you are single, then you should wear the ring on your right hand with the heart pointing away from your body. If you are engaged and soon to be married, then the ring should be worn on your left hand with the heart again pointing towards the body. Once you are married, you can go ahead and wear the ring on your left hand, but this time, you need to make the heart point towards your body.
