Are body piercings entirely safe as long as a sterile technique is used?

I’m 15 and I was thinking about getting my belly button pierced, but my grandmother talked to me about a life-threatening infection in the blood stream called Sepsis. Since then. I’ve been having second thoughts about it. I read online and learned that these infections only occur unless a sterile technique is used, but I still don’t want to take the chances. So tell me. Is it likely that I will get Sepsis from a navel piercing (belly button pierce) even though a sterile technique has been used?

yes you can because it is an open wound all the time and you may think its healed but it wont be completely.all it takes is for you to take it out one time and put it back with a tiny bit of bacteria on your finger and bam! you can get very sick and some nasty scars too.
