Next time you want this information, be specific about what you want pierced, these answers are VERY vague because I cannot fit everything about every piercing into this answer.

Cost varies based on who you go to, where the piercing is and the type of jewelry used (titanium, gold and niobium are more expensive than surgical grade stainless steel. Most piercings are between $35-$70 dollars and some places may give you a deal if you get more than one done at once.

Maintenance for piercings is very simple. For the first 2-3 months, wash the area twice daily with Dial (or Satin) soap and rinse well. Use a q-tip to remove buildup from the area. Also do sea salt soaks every other day. Oral piercings are to be cleaned with Biotene or salt water only and that is done after eating, drinking, smoking (the alcohol in regular mouthwash is too harsh). Depending on which piercing it is, there are other guidelines and instructions to follow, its all depends on what the piercing is. Generally though, you won’t play with the area while its healing and you don’t change the jewelry until its healed which can be anywhere from as few as 4 months to as long as a year or more (again, depends on the piercing). For some piercings, mainly oral piercings, after 1-3 weeks, you go back to have the piercer put in a slightly shorter length jewelry once swelling goes down.

Different body parts heal differently and everyone overall heals differently. Most torso located piercings take at least 6 months to heal, but some longer or shorter. If you are more specific, I could answer better.

Pain is relative and everyone is different. Chances are you will feel something, but how bad depends on what the piercing is and your tolerance to pain. Best thing to do is try to relax and take deep breaths. Piercings are done and over with quickly, all in all its not too bad.

Generally anyone using a piercing gun needs to be avoided. They are anything but a professional and the gun is not safe for piercings. Professionals will use hollow beveled needles and work in extremely sterile, safe and friendly environments. The should also be able to show you that they have an autoclave for sterilizing, they should be helpful and able to answer all of your questions. If you have doubts, let them know or go elsewhere. Most places are legit and aren’t trying to screw you over or hurt you. Go with your gut on whether or not you want that person to pierce you.

If you are looking to get a piercing, its best to check www.safepiercing.org for certified piercers in your area, the site also offers information about piercings, aftercare and other FAQs. www.bmezine.com is a great site as well. It offer an encyclopedia as well as articles and pictures of various mod stories. Look around the sites and if you have questions, feel free to ask me.
