Question: Can I get HIV from getting a tattoo or through body piercing?

A risk of HIV transmission exists if instruments contaminated with blood are either not sterilized or disinfected or are used inappropriately between clients. The CDC recommends that instruments intended to penetrate the skin is used once and discarded or cleaned and sterilized!.

HIV and piercings?

Since the HIV virus dies outside the body ..then why is there a risk of catching it from getting a piercing.

Like I got my nose pierced about 7 months ago. And recently I’ve been having a crazy AIDS paranoia (I think it might be my OCD..but yeah.) But now I’m wondering “Was that place clean?” “Did he change the needles?” “DO I HAVE HIV?”

But if HIV doesn’t live long outside the body, then why is there a risk?

Ha I’m the same way. I worry about it all the time, and have been tested multiple times to make sure I don’t have it, and of course, I still don’t! :) And if you went to a good clean place, you should have nothing to worry about, Almost every place now a days uses brand new needles that are opened right before your eyes. Good luck! :)
