Has anyone entered the U.S. Army with piercings?
And if so, when it had to be withdrawn for a basic training was successful to bounce back after graduation or had to be re-drilled? Or is there a way to keep the holes open with clear signs that you're gone?
My advice is if you decide to go with the army you might want to reconsider the piercings. You can go with them and I saw soldiers do many tricks to keep the holes open, in uniform, but this way. As an American soldier who is a U.S. represenitive direct and some may think that the jewels are not sufficient, in uniform. Also, if you read AR 670-1 is the jewel is prohibited while wearing the uniform of the army United States. It also has a body area that is open is not a good idea, all we do is ask to infection so be on the safe side … if you go to a soldier / sailor / airman / Marine then do the right thing and get rid of jewelry.
Is there any scriptural reason for refraining from getting body piercings and/or tattoos?
My church teaches against these things but I know of other churches that say it’s perfectly alright. Can someone give a straight answer with scripture to back it up? I really want to know what’s the right thing to do. Thank you.
There is a prohibition in Leviticus 19:28, and so amongst Jews there is to this day still a strong aversion to it – some Orthodox will not even permit a Jew with tattoos or markings to be buried in sacred ground (though this applies only to voluntary tattoos).
However, there is no reason in Christianity – other than some churches finding it desirable to pick and choose which OT commandments should apply and which not.
BTW in the Mishnah reference is made to women having pierced noses and ears for decorative purposes, so clearly the Leviticus prohibition did NOT apply to piercing!
