what size black diamond earrings should i get?

I’m a male. Athletic body type, ive played soccer around 15 years so i’m in good shape. 5′ 9″ around 170 lbs. I just got my ears pierced and i’m looking at black diamond studs. Ive heard 1/4 tdw is extremely small and some people say 1 carat tdw is too big. I don’t know how to get the best idea about what would be good for me. any ideas?
