How common is it for someone’s body to reject surgical steel?

My situation is I got a belly button ring a few years ago, and my body rejected it. I’d really like to get my tongue pierced, but I’m worried that it won’t take, and I’ll either be left with a permanent speech impediment from a reaction, or worse side effects. I just want to know if anyone has done this same thing, and how it worked out.

Surface piercings (like navel piercings, eyebrow piercings, etc) have high rejection rates. Tongue piercings rarely (if ever) reject. As long as you go to a professional, you don’t need to worry about it rejecting.
