Do you know where body piercing minors Parental Concent?

This would be a violation the law of Illinois, but for the right price, you can get almost everything in Chicago. Most jewelry stores will pierce ears minor girls.

Can I get an industrial piercing in Illinois, I’m 14…?

My mom took me to a place in Wisconsin today to get an industrial piercing in my cartilage. They said it’s illegal to do body piercings on anyone under 16, even with their parents. (cartilage counts as body, lobe does not)

What’s the age limit for illinois? I’m going to chicago this summer and my mom said I can get it. I just need to know where I can.

And don’t tell me to just wait until I’m sixteen, that doesn’t help anything.

Call ahead to whatever piercing salons you want to visit. That way you won’t waste your time. Even if it’s legal, not every shop will pierce a minor, not matter how much begging they try.

Do NOT go to Claire’s or any other place that uses a gun. Not only will a gun RIP a hole, rather then CUT a hole like a needle does, but it can never be sanitized 100% and there is a chance of getting Hepatitis or HIV. Do NOT listen to anything they say, they are just looking to get a sale and they don’t care about your health.

When you get to whatever shop you are going to do the following:

Ask to see the room; check to see that it looks/smells clean. Check everything, the counter tops, the area you’ll be laying, even the corners of the floor/ceiling….there’s no such thing as over clean!

Ask to see their autoclave and ask to see the most recent spore test. If they look at you funny, or can’t produce either, walk out!! This is a VERY important piece of equipment….it sanitizes all the tools with very hot water under very high pressure. It’ll look sort of like a pressure cooker, but it really isn’t. The spore test should have been done within the last 2 months to make sure the autoclave itself is still clean too.

Make sure you see all the tools they are going to use (other then the needle) comes directly out of an autoclave bag. The needle should be wrapped too, but it’s a one-time-use thing so it won’t be in an autoclave bag and as soon as it’s used on you, it needs to go in a red sharps container.

Ask what they use to mark the placement. If they use a one-time-use marker or a tooth pick dipped in an individual container of ink, that’s fine. If they re-use a marker, or re-use any un-used ink, that’s not!

Ask if they pierce using one bar or if they use two separate piercings (curved barbells are best). There’s a downside to both, but if you are getting it with one bar, make sure they don’t use “one-size-fits-all” since there’s no such thing! Make sure they measure your ear and they add at least an inch to the bar length to allow for swelling.

Since you’re only visiting that area, make sure they sell you a smaller bar to replace the larger bar with when the swelling goes down (in about 6 months) so you don’t go and buy a cheap piece in Hot Topic or some other mall store.

Ask what they recommend for after care. If they say anything anti-bacterial or soap related, DON’T listen! All you need is either H2Ocean or a sterile saline solution. If they say rotate it, DON’T. There’s no need to move the piercing at all when it’s healing.

You’ll need to clean it at least twice a day, more often if you get dirty. When ever you take a shower, clean it AFTER the shower to get rid of whatever soap might have gotten on it. Also, clean it before bed. If you take a shower in the morning, clean it when you get home from school.

All that you need to do to clean it properly is: spray it with H2Ocean or hold a warm comperes soaked in sterile saline and after everything has softened up use a clean q-tip to get the crusties off. You should try not to rotate it until it’s fully healed, about 6 months.

Try your hardest not to sleep on that side, also don’t use the phone on that side either. When pulling your hair back, be very careful not to snag it.

Yeah, I know I posted A LOT of information for just a tiny piercing, but that’s responsibility for you!!

Good luck and fast healing!
