Why are diamonds SO EXPENSIVE, even though they are not rare?
I have noticed that diamonds are VERY expensive, I never really understood why, yeah sure they look nice and shiny, but so is tin foil.
It’s the type of thing that a high school drop out can mine for and get rich off of, it’s ridiculous in my opinion
and another thing is that people say that it’s because they are so rare, which doesn’t make sense to me because if it was SOOO RARE, then why are there literally DISTRICTS where you can buy jewelry? tons and TONS of stores with diamonds! and EVERY celebrity has a huge diamond somewhere on their body, doesn’t seem very rare to me!
so can someone tell me and correct me as to WHY they are SO expensive and have such high value?!?!

Millions of diamonds – so many that the vast majority are made into cutting tools!!
But the reason they are rare is twofold!!
!. Good quality stones are not that common and take a lot of labor intensive work to cut and polish.
2. De Biers own and control the market almost exclusively. They have managed to completely isolate a huge area in Namibia where no one is allowed to enter because the area is so rich in diamonds you can literally pick them up off the ground!!!
