My septum piercing is about 7 months old and for the past couple months it has been smelly. It’s hard to describe the smell, but it’s just unpleasant. It’s perfectly healthy and non infected or painful. It feels great. I have PVD steel in it right now, and my body does not like surgical stainless steel.
Anyone else have this going on on a constant basis? It’s most smelly when I blow my nose. (Which is often, I have allergies).
The smell you’re experiencing is built up sebum around the piercing. It’s just dead skin and oil that collects around the piercing and smells a little funky but it’s perfectly healthy. Pretty much every piercing aside from oral ones develop this smell. My ear piercings have that funky smell too. Just keep it clean (daily!) and it should minimize the stink.
